Itchi aka Jan Fleischer is a transdisciplinary artist with a focus on drag, performance, installation, video and 3D animation based in Berlin. They often engage on the topic of othering (a subliminal form of exclusion of certain subjects or entire groups, which specifically contributes to the creation of marginalised communities) both in the heteropatriarchal world and within the queer community. The resulting alienation makes those affected feel like aliens. The cultural representation of aliens is a fictional construct, as there is no kind of information of extraterrestrial life. Here, various phenomena in nature served as a source of inspiration to portray the bizarre and strange.
These incidents relate to Itchi's artistic practice, both in thematically and visually, as they often move in the interstices of the synthetic and the natural, the real and the digital. They constantly try to blur the boundaries between human and artificial intelligence, myth and reality, man and woman, or even pop culture and art (classified as high culture).
In addition, the transformation of the human and especially its body plays a major role in their practice In a constant play with all these dualities and apparent oppositions, they try to set new standards for themselves.
To blur, redefine, or even make boundaries and binaries obsolete with its very existence is what "queerness" means in its definition.
